The one weakness a Creeper has is that they tend to run directly at you if they 'lock on.' You can use this in your favor by digging a dry moat around your perimeter. Be sure to ensure it is at the very least three blocks deep and two blocks wide, that way they're going to get stuck on the bottom along with the brute won't be able to jump the gap in your direction. Make this moat as close or a long way away in your home office as you wish, be sure that you use torches from the moat's borders or else you will be stuck inside area with monsters in the evening!
